Essential Functions of Position:
Commencing Spring 2012, a 1-year, Categorically funded, full-time temporary contract Counselor position will be available in the EOPS Department. This position will report to the Director, EOPS. General responsibilities include providing academic, career and personal counseling services through direct contract with students, and by providing direction for programs and services, the delivery of instruction, and development of technology-based support. Specific responsibilities include providing academic counseling services in which the student is assisted in assessing, planning and implementing his or her immediate and long range goals; providing career counseling, in which the student is assisted in assessing his or her aptitudes, abilities and interests, and advising students concerning current and future employment trends; providing orientation services in which the student is empowered to identify and utilize college and community support services; providing personal counseling, in which the student is assisted with personal, family or other social concerns, when that assistance is related to the student's education. Providing project and/or program leadership and coordinating services as assigned in support of the counseling and student development objectives of the college, Title V regulations, and other related state and federal regulations. Developing, applying and advancing the use of technology in the delivery of counseling services. Collaborating and serving as liaison with instructional faculty and other education entities and agencies as assigned; teaching personal development/college success curriculum as assigned; participating in research and review of effectiveness of counseling programs; and participating in college-wide, department, and individual professional development activities, including participation in the governance of the college via committee assignments.
Please note: This position will work an additional 20 days beyond the regular faculty temporary contract. In addition, at the discretion of the Director, EOPS, this position may be required to work 20 of their regular 175 contract days on calendar days outside the regular instructional calendar due to year-round need for counseling services (i.e., June, July and January).
Minimum Qualifications: The candidate must meet one of these criteria:
1. Possession of a Master's degree from an accredited institution in counseling, rehabilitation counseling, clinical psychology, counseling psychology, guidance counseling, educational counseling, social work, or career development; OR
2. A combination of education and other accomplishments that is equivalent to the above. (If claiming equivalency, attach a separate statement, which presents the basis for this claim and submit supporting evidence, e.g., transcripts, publications, and other work products.); OR
3. Possession of a lifetime California Community College Instructor Credential in Counseling.
In addition, EOPS Counselors must have
1) Completed a minimum of nine semester units of college course work predominantly relating to ethnic minorities or persons handicapped by language, social or economic disadvantages; OR 2) Completed six semester units or the equivalent of a college-level counseling practicum or counseling field work courses in a community college EOPS program, or in a program dealing predominantly with ethnic minorities or persons handicapped by language, social or economic disadvantages, AND A) shall have two years of occupational experience in work relating to ethnic minorities or persons handicapped by language, social or economic disadvantages.
Desirable Qualifications:
• A strong foundation of training and experience in counseling theory and practice and a record of excellence in counseling students in a community or four-year college, community agency, or high school.
• Evident experience and vision in the successful design and implementation of counseling programs and services.
• Evident experience and vision in the design and integration of technology in the delivery of counseling systems and services.
• Ability to provide leadership and support for college-wide and department-based student success efforts and initiatives.
• Experience working with and ability to counsel students from diverse cultural, ethnic, socioeconomic, academic and disability backgrounds.
• Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and written.
• Familiarity with the California Education Code and Community College programs and policies/duties, particularly matriculation requirements.
Salary & Personnel Benefits:
The current salary schedule range for a temporary contract faculty position is $53,668-$73,668, plus 20 extended days at contract daily rate, plus an earned doctoral bonus of $2,683. Starting salary is commensurate with academic preparation and full-time related, paid experience. In addition to salary, each full-time employee participates in a "cafeteria style" Health & Welfare Benefits Program.

Selection Procedure:
